MICRONICS HAS CORE CAPABILITIES IN DIFFUSION-BASED DETECTION, FILTRATION METHODS AND MICROCYTOMETRY. Micronics is a leader in the development of fluid miniaturization solutions that integrate and automate laboratory processes on a single, disposable, versatile and cost-effective lab card. Today, Micronics holds thirty-one issued or allowed U.S. patents on its microfluidics technologies, including those exclusively licensed from the University of Washington and additional intellectual property that it has developed independently.
Diffusion is difficult to harness on a large, macro scale due to surrounding "noise" in the environment. At the microfluidics level, however, the control of diffusion is possible and powerful. Micronics' solution is to utilize the properties of laminar flow, which maintains a boundary between fluids, while molecules within the fluid migrate across the boundary where they can react to produce a measurable response. This allows rapid analysis of molecular components that, on the macro level, would require advance sample preparation, including centrifugation, of the components to be analyzed. Micronics is applying its diffusion capabilities in the following patented technology platforms:
